Health & Safety:

The extreme weather conditions experienced in the summer of 2026 led to concerns about whether to play matches when a red alert is in place.

Extreme Weather Guidance

This is a copy of the Bowls England advice, published in June 2026, on actions to be taken under conditions of:

  • Extreme Heat
  • Thunder Storms

 Your liability

If captains decide to bowl when a red heat alert is in place, they may not be covered by their clubs' insurance for any incident, illness or accident resulting from exposure to extreme heat.

It is the responsibility of individual captains to check whether they are covered by their club's insurance.

This page summarises your potential liabilities should you NOT be covered.

Please note: this information is from the internet - I have not consulted a solicitor. It is up to you if you wish to investigate further.

If any member of the league can offer further advice about individual and club liability, please get in touch.
