Oddfellows’ Charity Rosebowl Competition Final: Saturday 5th September
The Oddfellows’ Charity Rosebowl competition final was played at Stamford Town Bowls Club on Saturday 5th September, between Oakham and Stamford Town. Oakham Claimed the title for the second year running, winning by 57 - 37 shots. The charity being supported this year is the Stroke Association. The League would like to thank Stamford Town for hosting this final.
On rink 2, Oakham’s father and son team, Paul and Matthew Murrant, supported by Eddie Owen as lead, could do no wrong. After a tentative start, the score was just 3 - 4 shots to Oakham against Chris Ford’s team. Then the Oakham team scored a 5 and five 3s, bringing the score to 24 - 3 in their favour. Stamford Town were closed out for a total of nine ends, with the final score being 28 - 5 to Oakham.
Kevin Vinter’s team (Stamford Town) had a slow start against Stuart Primarolo’s team (Oakham), but they managed to pull ahead with two 4s in the 6th and 7th ends, bringing the score to 13 - 6 to Stamford. They held on to this lead until the 17th end, when Oakham overtook them by one shot. The final score was 19 - 16 to Oakham.
Rink 4 saw Paul Bailey’s team (Stamford) take the lead in the second end against Paul Jenkinson’s Oakham team; they then held on to that lead for the rest of the game, scoring steadily to win by 16 - 10 shots.
