AGM 2026

Stamford & District Bowls League AGM, 4th November 2026.

The Stamford & District Bowls League held its 77th AGM on Wednesday 4th November at the Danish Invader, Stamford; Acting Chairman Don McGarrigle welcomed club representatives and, after a minute’s silence in memory of those members no longer with us, trophies were presented to this season’s winners. President James Henderson presented a cheque for £1421 to a representative from the Stroke Association.

The Stamford League had a very successful season, with the long period of hot dry weather. This gave some cause for concern because extreme heat warnings were in place, resulting in some matches being postponed.

Following reports from the committee members, the changes to the league format to two divisions, trialled in 2026, were reviewed. A large majority voted to continue with two divisions in 2027. One consequence of this is that, from 2027, there would be three teams promoted and three teams relegated at the end of each season; a change in rules was proposed and agreed.

The problems caused by the extreme heat conditions in 2026 had been considered, with a rule change to clarify actions to be taken proposed and agreed, together with an advisory for clubs to check insurance. A request by the Fixtures Secretary for clubs to submit the number of teams they would be entering by the end of February each year was proposed and agreed. The reduced number of competition entries in 2026 was discussed and it was agreed that the committee would cancel any competition that they did not consider viable.

Chairman Don McGarrigle thanked retiring President James Henderson for his work over the past year and welcomed new President Shirley Suffling from Blackstones Bowls Club. James Henderson handed over his chain of office.

New members appointed to the committee, in addition to the new President, were David Knighton (Greetham Bowls Club) as Vice President, Moira Holroyd (Stamford Town Bowls Club) as Division 2 Representative and James Henderson (Wittering Bowls Club) as General Committee Member. All other members of the committee were re-elected to their positions. The position of Vice Chairman is still vacant.
