Competition Finals (1)
Boor & Wainwright Shield Final
Market Overton Tornadoes met Blackstones C in the final of this handicap competition played at Langtoft on Saturday, 24th August. Tornadoes had a twelve-point advantage (4 points per rink) because of the handicapping system, which depends on the positions of the teams at the end of the previous season. The final score was 65 – 54 to Blackstones C.

Richard Lambert’s team were unfortunate to be playing against the team that were runners-up in the National final of the 2-wood rinks Stoddard Trophy on Friday 23rd August, with captain Stephen Harris, an England International; Harris’s team forged ahead with 3 shots in the 12th and 13th ends, and sealed their victory with 3 shots in each of the last three ends for a 30 – 17 win. Jonny Abbott’s team managed to stay ahead of Adam Warrington’s team throughout the game, holding on to win by 19 – 16. Liz Dyer’s team were in the lead for the first 8 ends, then they were overtaken, but equalised again in the 18th end. Martyn Dolby’s team just managed to clinch victory with a 19 -18 win.
The players were (Market Overton Tornadoes first):
Rink 1: Annette Oliver, Jack Warner and Richard Lambert v Michael Humphreys, Paul Buckley, Stephen Harris.
Rink 2: Jeannie Hutton, James Murphy and Jonny Abbott v Trevor Christie, Derek Needham and Adam Warrington.
Rink 3: Tony Ansell, John Mitchell and Liz Dyer v Martin Stokes, Paul Martlew and Martyn Dolby.
